FOB — Free On Board
We deliver the goods on board the vessel for the destination you specify, released to the consignee you name.
What this term covers
Under FOB we take the goods through to the vessel: export handling at origin and loading on board, for the destination you have specified. The bill of lading is made out to the consignee you nominate, which is normally your own forwarder or agent.
From the moment the goods are on board, the sea freight, the insurance and everything at the destination are yours to arrange. FOB is the usual choice for importers who buy freight rates themselves and want control of the main leg.
